Spotlight Q&A With Mackenzie Barr, CAKE’s Business Development Representative

by | Mar 16 | Blog, CAKE News

In this spotlight Q&A, we caught up with Mackenzie Barr, CAKE’s Business Development Representative. Mackenzie brings more than four years of sales experience and is passionate about helping prospects find the best solution for their unique business goals.

Here are some highlights from our conversation.

What is your current role at CAKE and what are you focused on?

I am currently in Business Development at CAKE. My focus is on creating interest in CAKE’s affiliate and lead distribution solutions, and bringing in customers. When working with new prospects, I have found that the most impactful way to help them is by understanding the pain points they are currently experiencing and then sharing how CAKE’s software can address their challenges. I really enjoy providing prospects with a solution that can streamline their day-to-day, give clarity into their performance program, and boost their efforts towards generating revenue.

Can you share more about your journey into affiliate marketing?

Prior to CAKE, I worked at one of the largest online platforms for home remodeling and design. It was in this former role that my passion for technology sales developed. Shortly after that role, my interest in the affiliate marketing industry quickly grew and I explored the different opportunities available.

One of the most interesting things I have learned so far is that the affiliate industry is incredibly competitive and progresses rapidly. Technology innovation demands that we adapt to all of the changes taking place in the industry which has kept me focused and busy!

What is the biggest trend you are seeing in affiliate marketing in 2022?

Definitely growth. A lot of larger companies are starting affiliate programs, while companies with more established affiliate programs are focusing on expansion.

In my personal experience, however, I’ve been chatting with a lot of clients about the ability to track affiliate events. Affiliate marketers want event tracking because they’re looking to track and pay their affiliates with more conversion variety due to an increase in industry competition. Networks and advertisers need to measure each step within an acquisition funnel, plus monitor free trial signups, in-app purchases, returning customers, and so much more. Events are so dynamic. They provide transparency into revenue impacting actions or can simply be leveraged to gain insight into customer behavior along their acquisition journey.

Outside of work, what are you passionate about?

Being a native of Southern California, I have spent most of my life outside and in the water. Since I was ten years old, I’ve been an avid water polo player and even played during college. In my free time, I love coaching and mentoring high school water polo players. I’ve been coaching from a young age and it’s definitely something I hope to continue for a long time.

What is one piece of advice you would offer prospects looking for an affiliate software solution?

Throughout my experience in the industry, I have found that the old saying “you get what you pay for” reigns true. CAKE’s enterprise software provides robust tracking capabilities, accuracy, advanced APIs/integrations, and campaign flexibility. The enterprise capabilities combined with unmatched customer support are why customers come to CAKE and stay with CAKE.

What is one thing people don’t know about you?

One thing most people don’t know about me is that I absolutely love nature. My plan one day is to live on a piece of land with my family. Ideally we will have animals, home-grown fruits and vegetables, and areas to entertain our friends and family!

Lucky for me – the new remote work could actually make this lifestyle a reality! Off the grid, but online. :)
